We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Sustainability Manager to join our team and lead our sustainability initiatives.
The successful candidate will improve our monitoring and reporting on all sustainability related data (including Scope 1-3 emissions), to enable The National Archives to make effective changes or to introduce new measures on its journey to meet UK government net zero targets. They will advise the organisation on compliance with all related environmental policies and regulations. By building knowledge in every department, this role will increase awareness and accountability around all sustainability related issues, and will initiate robust systems of responsibility and accountability at every level.

This is a full time post. However, requests for part-time working, flexible working and job share will be considered, taking into account at all times the operational needs of the Department.
A combination of onsite and home working is available and applicants should be able to regularly travel to our Kew site for a minimum of 60% of their work time.
This is a Fixed Term Appointment for 2 years.

Essential criteria:
- Qualification in a relevant field such as, but not limited to, sustainability, corporate social responsibility, environmental management and significant experience of working within the sustainability field (any sector).
- Expert knowledge of environmental compliance requirements, standards, and regulations and of current energy, sustainability and related legislation, industry best practice and how these inform business operations
- In depth data analytical and engineering skills to inform decision-making and annual budget processes; proficient in defining KPIs and building interactive and dynamic dashboards using Power BI, including expertise in pulling qualitative and quantitative data via APIs from multiple data sources and employing data engineering techniques such as ETL processes and data pipeline development.
- Experience of developing and implementing sustainability strategies and/or plans with a track record of continual improvement.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and analytical skills together with the capability to work in a cross-functional way
- Strategic thinker with proven experience of implementing systemic change, and a pragmatic approach to ensure execution and ongoing adoption.
- Recognised source of expertise on sound environmental management practices, including representation at senior management meetings, committees and events
- Significant interpersonal and consultative skills, including the ability to communicate, present, negotiate, influence and build credibility with colleagues and external parties
