Collection Manager: Storage and Moves (BM_ARC)

About the role:
The postholder will lead and manage the work of a team of Assistant Collection Managers to deliver documentation, packing and rehouse as part of a major storage move project, with a particular focus on archaeological assemblages.
This role will be based at the British Museum’s new storage facility, BM_ARC, at the Thames Valley Science Park in Shinfield, near Reading.
Please note we are recruiting for 2 vacancies for this particular role.

Key areas of responsibility:
• Manage a team of Assistant Collection Managers to deliver a range of projects to move and improve care and access to collections in storage.
• To work with the project team, curators, collections managers and conservators to support the planning and delivery of documentation, packing and decant projects.
• Provide expert advice and guidance in the successful delivery of projects to time, budget, and the required quality.
• To contribute to fit out plans for storage facilities.
• To manage processes connected with security, audit, and essential documentation of the collection.
• To plan, coordinate and deliver training, including skill-sharing.
• To support access to the collections as appropriate during move projects, which may include providing access via the study rooms.

About you:
• Demonstrable interest in aspects of the British Museum’s collections
• Object or art handling and collections care experience in a museum or similar environment.
• Ability to manage and motivate a team.
• Excellent prioritisation, planning, and organisational skills.
• Flexibility to deliver a varied programme of work.
• Self-motivated and able to use initiative.
• Good communicator, verbally and in writing
• Ability to work as part of a wide and multi-disciplinary team.
• Museum Studies or qualifications that include practical experience of object handling, particularly of archaeological assemblages (Desirable)
