About Us

The Conservation and Collections Care team (C&CC) support all conservation activity across the collection and are responsible for establishing and maintaining conservation and collection care standards.

We are now recruiting for a Conservation and Collections Care Manager based at the National Railway Museum in York with hybrid working available. This is a full-time, permanent role working 35 hours per week.

About the role

As the Conservation and Collections Care Manager you will be responsible for leading and managing the C&CC team in York and Shildon, including project staff and volunteers. You will develop and train staff to ensure that they can deliver conservation programmes to a high standard.

You will be planning, monitoring and delivering conservation activity at the National Railway Museum and Locomotion, including interventive and preventive programmes, to ensure museum plans and statutory requirements are met within time and budget. Ensuring the appropriate quality of all CCC work is maintained. You will be responsible for the collections hazards management on site and as such will be the site Collections Asbestos Manager and Radiation Protection supervisor.

You will communicate effectively with museum stakeholders, securing and influencing their support and contributions; identifying and resolving problems; ensuring the wider museum and CCC team is kept informed and consulted as appropriate.

About you

Joining us you will have significant experience in conservation and collections care. You will be an effective project and people manager with the ability to direct, supervise, influence, motivate and coach interdisciplinary teams including volunteers, interns and other professionals.

Crucially, you will be able to use your communication skills to build effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. You will have experience of reviewing processes and workflows to find efficiencies coupled with the ability to work well in a team and generate ideas and drive workstreams forward.
