STEM Teens Project Officer (Fixed Term)

Birmingham Museums is for everyone and we are proud to put inclusivity at the heart of our work. We offer an environment which encourages development and empowerment, together with investing in people, leading in excellence, building a sustainable business and growing and diversifying our audiences.

The STEM Teens project is evaluating the impact of teenagers as youth educators on engagement and learning outcomes of visitors. Jointly funded by the Wellcome Trust, ESRC, and the National Science Foundation, the project is gathering data at Thinktank as well as a science centre, two STEM-focused museums, an aquarium and a zoo in the UK and US. In the first two years of the five-year study, the project has found significant evidence that suggests both adult and child visitors learn more factual science knowledge from interacting with a youth educator compare to an adult educator.

We are currently seeking a Project Officer to support with the delivery of the research happening at Thinktank working closely with the researchers based at the University of Exeter who are leading the project. The post holder will also support the Visitor Services and Engagement teams at Thinktank more generally with community engagement, volunteering and youth development projects including the Science and Heritage Career Ladder and Work Experience programmes.

The successful candidate will have a passion for STEM communication and creating opportunities for teenagers to engage with the Museum and its collection. The role will require an organised individual who is able to work independently and use their initiative to develop new ideas for engagement initiatives at Thinktank.

This is a fixed term/ part time role until August 2022.

Working 14.8 hrs per week split over 2 days. Working every Monday is required for the role but we can be flexible about second day of work.

Please note CV's are not accepted.
