Commander Jeff Tall OBE

Director, Royal Navy Submarine Museum

Commander Jeff Tall has been Director of the Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport since August 1994, when he retired from the Royal Navy. A submariner for 28 years, he passed his Submarine Command Qualifying Course (Perisher) in 1974 and during the next 20 years he commanded four submarines. He served as Admiral Sandy Woodward's submarine staff officer onboard the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes during the Falklands Conflict in 1982.

Awarded the OBE in January 1994, he was co-author (with the naval historian Paul Kemp) of HM Submarines in Camera; he wrote the historical element of the CD-Rom The RN Submarine Service - Past Present and Future; he was the author of The Snapping Turtle Guide to Submarines and contributed the maritime chapter to Lightning Strikes Twice published in November 2000. He makes regular appearances on the Discovery and History TV Channels.
