Chris Newbery
Director, Royal Marines Museum

Before taking up his post as Director of the Royal Marines Museum in 1998, Mr Newbery had been Director of the Museum Training Institute since 1995. He began his museological career at the Museum of London where he gained a Museums Association Diploma in 1974. Between 1978 and 1981 he worked as Curator for Chichester District Museums and was instrumental in the creation of Pallant House Art Gallery in Chichester. In 1981 he went on to work as Curator for Newport Borough Council Museum, Art Gallery and Tredegar House. He was London Museums Officer for the Area Museums Service for South Eastern England in 1983 and went on to become Deputy Director of the Museums and Galleries Commission in 1985.
The author of several articles on Museums, Mr Newbery was awarded the Museums Association Fellowship in 1990.
