Dr Kevin Fewster AM

Director, National Maritime Museum

Kevin Fewster took up his post as Director of the National Maritime Museum in September 2007. Dr Fewster had been Director of the Powerhouse Museum, Australia's largest museum, for the previous seven years. He is a significant figure in the international maritime museum community and a published historian. He started his museum career as the inaugural Director of the South Australian Maritime Museum in Port Adelaide. Then from 1989-99 he was the first Director of the Australian National Maritime Museum in Sydney. He was the inaugural Chairman of the Council of Australian Maritime Museums and Vice President, then President (1996-99), of the International Congress of Maritime Museums (ICMM), the world body for maritime museums.
