Dr David Fleming OBE
Director, National Museums Liverpool

Dr Fleming became Director of the National Museums Liverpool (then National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside) in October 2001. For the previous eleven years he worked at Tyne and Wear Museums, as Assistant Director (Museums Management) in 1990, becoming Director in 1991.
His museological career began in 1981 as Curator of the Yorkshire Museum of Farming. In 1983 he became Curator (Collection Services) at Leeds City Museums where he worked for two years before becoming Principal Keeper of Museums, Hull City Museums and Art Galleries.
Dr Fleming gained his PhD in 1981 and was awarded an OBE in 1997 in recognition of his service to museums. In 2000 he was elected President of the Museums Association and he has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts since 1997.
